The next morning, we woke up and headed to Kilchberg on the west side of Lake Zurich. We had timed entry tickets to the Lindt Home of Chocolate. We were a little early, so we walked by the lake a bit before heading inside the visitor’s center.
You are immediately greeted by a very large, very real chocolate fountain. We headed past this and up the stairs, where we scanned our tickets and entered. The first few rooms are dedicated to the history of chocolate, the history of Switzerland, and the history of chocolate in Switzerland. And then you get to the good stuff: the tasting room. We tasted white, milk, and dark chocolate, in both liquid and solid forms. We all got free samples of many, many Lindt truffles in a variety of flavors. We watched how both solid and filled chocolates were made within the factory.
When we were done with the tour, we went into the cafe, where I got a brownie, LS got ice cream, and Mr. Strange drank a coffee.
Afterward, we took the ferry back to town, then headed over to the FIFA Museum. This was pretty fun, with lots of memorabilia from past World Cups and interactivity. Mr. Strange bought an extra ticket into the Skills Zone and then nearly killed himself trying out his soccer skills.
After leaving the FIFA Museum, we headed to the Stadthaus, where we borrowed a key that would unlock doors around the city to reveal hidden, historical architecture. We found such places as an old waste alley, a Roman bath, and part of the old city wall, among others.
We also climbed up (in the heat!) to the University of Zurich to find Einstein’s locker and then took the funicular back down (perhaps this would have been better to do in reverse).
For dinner that evening, we had reservations at La Dezaley, where I was happy to order fondue (for only the second time the entire trip!) and Mr. Strange got a steak. We were seated in a lovely patio area, and our server was so sweet with LS. We all agreed this was the best meal we had on our trip thus far!
We ended our day with a visit up to the Lindenhof.
