Our first stop along the Ring Road was Seljalandsfoss. This is a tall waterfall that you are able to walk behind. We donned our raincoats and rain pants, which were key because we got absolutely soaked. It was an amazing view, though.
We continued along the path and came to an opening in the rock. Here we really tested the limits of our waterproof boots as we waded through the creek to get a closeup view of the waterfall Gljufrabrui.
Back on the road, we were headed to the next set of waterfalls. However, on the way, we came across a little turf house built into the side of a hill, so we stopped and climbed over the stile on the fence to get a closer view. Inside, we found a collection of gnomes!
When we arrived at our next stop, we decided to get some lunch. My coworker had recommended a little food truck, Mia’s Country Van, which sells fish and chips and is located just before the Skogafoss parking lot. We each got a basket and sat down to eat.
Once our bellies were full again, we headed down to the falls. A beautiful rainbow was stretched across in front of the falls in the mist. We paused for photos and to admire the view. We watched as several people climbed under the falls for a swim! A series of stairs headed up to the top of the falls, so we climbed up there to check out the view. A path continues up there that leads to many other waterfalls, but we wanted to continue on so we did not follow it any further.
Instead, we drove down the road a bit to near the Skogar Museum. We paid for parking via the Parka app and completed a short hike to another waterfall, Kvernufoss. The path along the creek was beautiful and several sheep were grazing nearby. This waterfall also had an area where you could go behind the falls, but we chose not to wear our rain gear, as it was fairly hot out.
After hiking back, we continued on the Ring Road toward Vik.
