On our last day in Zurich, after returning our archaeological windows key and spending some time in some local records stores, we took a day trip up to see the Rhine Falls. We purchased tickets on the Blue line, which provides a 15 minute up close boat ride to the falls.

It was 90 degrees that day and the mist felt nice! The boat captain invited all of the children on the boat to pose for pictures in his seat, which LS enjoyed.

Next we took another boat across the river to go on the viewpoint path by the castle. We spent quite some time exploring up and down the hillside at all the different views of the falls.

Then we headed back to Zurich to wind down our time in the city. We wanted Italian for dinner and found a spot at Vallocaia on the Niederdorfstrasse. Despite not having a dedicated kids’ menu (the menu says they can turn anything on their regular menu into a kid-sized portion for 15 CHF), they were happy to make spaghetti with tomato sauce for LS, and Mr. Strange and I split the filet. We were all pleasantly surprised with the food, fearing at first that it would be sub-par and touristy, but it was delicious! I ordered the “warm chocolate cake” for dessert, which, delightfully, turned out to be my favorite: a molten chocolate cake.
