The next morning, we awoke, ate breakfast at the hotel, then headed further up the cable car to the Schilthorn. Apparently some James Bond movie was filmed up there (it was mentioned about every three steps) but none of us had seen it. We were there for the views. And what views they were!
After we had finished taking in the fantastic vistas, we headed one stop down to do the Thrill Walk, which is basically a walkway alongside the mountain cliff with various more thrilling paths you can choose to take, such as a rope walk, a glass walkway, and a wire tunnel. LS enjoyed the tunnel the most and, after going through once, waited patiently for a large group to slowly make their way through so she could go back the other way.
When we were done with the Thrill Walk, we headed back to Mürren, changed clothes, and then set out for a walk down to the village of Gimmelwald. This was a beautiful and pleasant stroll, and we watched as the paragliders soared overhead. We made our way to the town, meandering down the street. We heard music and singing coming from below. We found a shop named the Honesty Shop, where no one worked, but sold various souvenirs and things, relying on people to be honest for payment. It took cards, so we chose a few items, and purchased them before heading on our way. There were also various unmanned cheese stands where you could buy goods, but most of these took cash, and we didn’t have any on hand.
We finally made our way to the location where we had heard music earlier, and it turned out to be a town festival! They were grilling brats and selling homemade cakes and things, so we purchased some food and sat at a table and listened to the band play and the chorus sing. The bratwurst was so good! I commented that now I felt like Rick Steves, joining in the local community.
Once we had eaten, we headed back down the cable car to Stechelberg where we got on the bus to Trummelbach Falls. This is a series of ten waterfalls located within the mountain. We headed up the elevator to the top and then worked our way down to see all of them.
We headed back to Mürren and ate dinner at the hotel restaurant, where I had spaghetti and Mr. Strange and LS both had salads. Another lovely ending to a lovely day.
